Government officials in Mbombela embark on road maintenance programme

The road repair programme is a component of President Cyril Ramaphosa's district development model.

The department officials of the Ehlanzeni District and the City of Mbombela Municipality embarked on a two-week road maintenance programme, focusing on the R40 between Mbombela and White River, as the festive season is fast approaching.

Both teams gathered all resources for cleaning, grass cutting and clearing the road, starting from Riverside and going towards White River.
This is part of the implementation of the district development model (DDM) as launched by President Cyril Ramaphosa.

The model promotes working together with municipalities, and in particular the department, to have an integrated province’s road infrastructure maintenance plan, and also to ensure the implementation of an integrated response to the pressing need for maintenance and preservation of both the provincial and municipal road infrastructure spheres.

The programme will continue to be implemented in the other parts of the district as well.
The MEC for public works, roads and transport, Mandla Ndlovu, said they are going to implement the DDM through the maintenance interventions that will be carried out to ensure that all roads remain safe and usable in the whole province.

“Through the maintenance plan, Operation Valazonke: Fixing Potholes Together, as launched by Minister Fikile Mbalula, our efforts will be intensified. The operation seeks to address the number of potholes on the road networks in the country. And under our aim as a department, we will strive to fight potholes and to make the roads safe.”
