Mpumalanga ANC speaks out against brutal killing of regional deputy chairperson

Muzi Manyathi's death follows a Facebook video in which he made allegations against members of the ANC, claiming they were behind some political killings.

The Mpumalanga ANC has come out guns blazing against ill discipline and acts of violence following the killing of Gert Sibande’s regional deputy chairperson, Muzi Manyathi, on Friday November 4.
Even though it has not been confirmed as yet whether Manyathi’s killing was politically motivated or just an act of sheer criminality, the provincial ANC is angered by the incident and has gone on record to reprimand its members to desist from acts of violence.

The party’s chairperson, Mandla Ndlovu, said, “The matter is already in the hands of the police and they are working around the clock to get all the answers. We have full trust in our law enforcement agencies. We are hopeful that they will soon piece together the puzzle and give us answers. We don’t want to speculate and say things that we have no proof of, but we would like to call on our own members to refrain from any acts of violence, because the ANC doesn’t belong to one individual, it is the people’s organisation. Members who will be found to be fuelling violence anywhere in the province will be harshly dealt with,” vowed Ndlovu.

Manyathi was shot execution style last Friday at a filling station in Mkhondo just days after he had shot a live Facebook video of himself implicating members of the ANC to be behind political killings within the Gert Sibande District.

The party’s provincial secretary, Muzi Chirwa, also weighed in on the matter and called for justice to take its course. “It is with great sadness and shock to learn of the brutal killing of Manyathi. The Mpumalanga ANC is calling for the swift arrest of the perpetrators of this heinous crime.

“We are calling on all ANC members to exercise restraint and to allow the law enforcement agencies to perform their duties without any hindrances. We demand justice for Comrade Manyathi and with humility, we send our deepest heartfelt condolences to the Manyathi family.

“Our prayers are with them in this difficult time of grief and mourning. We want to send a strong message that our revolution cannot be derailed by cowards, senseless and barbaric people who are killing our members and leaders,” said Chirwa.
