Mpumalanga MEC for education monitors start of final matric exams

The marking of exams will start on December 9 in 19 centres spread throughout the province.

The provincial MEC for education, Bonakele Majuba, visited Khayalami Secondary School in Siyathuthuka, eMakhazeni, on Monday October 31 to monitor the first day of the National Senior Certificate (NCS) examinations.

Majuba said he was very encouraged by the level of preparedness by the school and the confidence displayed by the candidates. He used the occasion to convey his best wishes to the Class of 2022.

All registered, full-time Grade 12 learners were writing English home or second additional language on Monday.

“We are encouraged by the progress to date. Teachers have done everything humanly possible to prepare the learners. The ball is now in the candidates’ court to do their best. We hope they can appreciate the significance of this examination and work hard to make their parents and the community of Mpumalanga proud. We extend our best wishes to the Class of 2022,” he said.

The Mpumalanga Department of Education has managed an incident-free examination process since 2010, and it intends to uphold that positive trajectory as well as improve the overall outcomes of this examination.
“So far, 71 582 learners have registered to write in 566 centres throughout the province. This number is the highest in the history of writing such an examination in the province,” he explained.

Ntombikayise Nkuna, a matric, said after she had seen her trial exams results, she immediately started preparing for the finals, because her results were so poor, she decided to take steps to improve them.

“I started attending extra classes in the morning and afternoon, and on Saturday and Sunday. I am glad that attending these extra classes has helped me improve. Attending the Grade 12 camp has helped me, and I recommend it, because it helps you to focus only on studying.”
The NSC examinations will progress until December 7. The handing over of a bursary from the department and a brand-new car to the provincial top learner will be held on January 20, when the results are announced.
