Nkomazi commentators entertain crowds

Community members are calling for them to be included and absorbed by the local radio stations.

The two soccer commentators, known as Zong B, are quickly becoming a force to be reckoned with.
The duo, Evence Mabunda and Nhlanhla Luhlanga, are making a name for themselves. Community members are calling for them to be included and absorbed by the local radio stations.

These talented commentators are always at soccer games playing their craft on the sideline.

“We share ideas on how to make local sports entertaining for the spectators. I grew up in a family without a television, so we listened to Ligwalagwala FM every day. Every time there was a soccer game, we used to listen to how Bheki Letswalo and the late Zero Man Phangisa would narrate the game and give the listeners a sense of a live version through radio. Listening to these great commentators gave us motivation and inspired us to also want to be professional commentators,” said Mabunda.

The duo first collaborated in 2013 when they were in Grade Eight and met during a soccer game.
“We share the same vision and aspirations, and that is what has kept us going strong for the past nine years. We see ourselves working on radio and television doing what we love, and that is entertaining spectators through our commentary work. Working with Letswalo is our greatest ambition and would be an honour of a lifetime,” said Mabunda.

He said one of the soccer tournament organisers gave them a chance and a platform to showcase their talent at one of the tournaments and the feedback was excellent; people loved their work.

“This gave us recognition and other organisers called us, and they loved us. Through our journey we ended up working at various places such as KaMdladla, Boschfontein, Langeloop and Driekoppies with commentators who did commentary work for the annual Selati Cup. Our aim is not to be known or to be famous, but to help unite people through sport. We want people to fall in love with sports, as it has a way of uniting and bringing people of various backgrounds together.”

“Serving people is not easy, because of the hate and discouragement we sometimes get from our peers, but knowing what we want, we are still here standing and fighting for our dreams,” said Mabunda.
