The theme to celebrate the historic day was women’s socio-economic rights, empowerment and resilience.

Mpumalanga policewomen were out of their blue uniform and dressed in their South African traditional attire to celebrate Women’s Day at the Steve Tshwete Banquet Hall in Middelburg yesterday.

The event, led by the provincial police commissioner, Lieutenant General Semakaleng Manamela, was an implementation for women empowerment and gender equality, including the scourge of gender-based violence (GBV), which has become a priority for the provincial government.

This year’s Women’s Day was celebrated under the theme of women’s socio-economic rights, empowerment and resilience, which is a global campaign in effort to achieve gender equality by 2030.
