Matsulu author and businesswoman releases 2nd book

Hlakati said the events of her high school years served as the inspiration for her second book, It's a Weird and Wonderful World.

Noluvo Hlakati (20) began writing at the age of 15 to deal with all the negativity she had encountered in her life.

She is the author of two books that detail her upbringing and high school experiences.

Hlakati lost her aunt when she was only eight and she was forced to live with her stepmother, who mistreated her.
This is when she started pouring her emotions into writing. At the age of 15, she wrote her first book, Trapped, but it was never published due to a lack of funding.

Then someone stepped in, money was raised, and on September 23, 2020, it was published.
Hlakati said, “The harshest events I had to endure when my aunt died are in Trapped. The book details how I was emotionally trapped and forced to go through challenges at a young age that altered my life. I had to learn to adapt to change and hold out hope that one day things would get better. I had a lot on my mind and in my heart. The book encourages readers to become the change they wish to see in the world.

“The book teaches readers that even negative events can serve as life lessons that help us treat others with respect, love, and goodness.”

Hlakati said the events of her high school years served as the inspiration for her second book, It’s a Weird and Wonderful World.
“I wrote about how the bullying I experienced in high school changed my perspective on the world. The book also describes the challenges I encountered throughout my first year of university, including having to adjust to a new setting and make new acquaintances.

“It serves as a reminder to readers that we all have unique perspectives based on our own experiences. Asking for assistance does not indicate weakness, but rather strength. My book educates readers to never belittle those who are currently experiencing adversity.”

In addition to writing two books, Hlakati is a third-year BEd student at the Tshwane University of Technology. She is a real estate entrepreneur as well. She owns property in Montana, Pretoria, and has a few investments in companies listed on the JSE.
