State-of-the-art day-care centre opens in Pienaar

This facility is going to be the footprint of Mpumalanga and prepare children for primary school, for which they will possess advanced knowledge and capabilities to excel.

The cutting-edge Luthando Day-care Centre held its official opening event on Friday July 22. This one-of-a-kind day care, which boasts sophisticated, cutting-edge facilities, will open its doors to children from the age of three months to six years old.

Developing a solid educational foundation for the kids is a goal for this top-notch centre, which will have qualified teachers and a curriculum related to the Department of Basic Education. This facility is going to be the footprint of Mpumalanga and prepare children for primary school, for which they will possess advanced knowledge and capabilities to excel.

The brains behind all this, the director of the centre, Pertunia Zitha, said, “The idea started in 2016 after I realised I was struggling and had nowhere to leave my child when I was going to work. I saw how the people in this community did not have a place where they can leave infants, because we did not have a day care back then. That is when I thought of putting the idea into reality, and have a unique day care that will take kids as young as three months.”

Zitha said Luthando will only hire qualified educators as they aim to intellectually nurture the children.
“Only educators with an early childhood development degree or diploma are eligible, since they are qualified to supervise, educate and care for children. The children will be taught by qualified teachers, and they will develop each child’s potential to his or her fullest. Our goal is to provide a comprehensive and organised educational curriculum that will holistically develop the kids and prepare them for primary school.”

The grand opening was a rousing success, with many stakeholders in attendance, including a member of the Mpumalanga Provincial Legislature, Mandla Msibi, who said this day-care centre will serve as a foundation for the children in and around Pienaar, as it will offer quality early childhood education.
“This centre will be a success story in this area thanks to its excellent curriculum. Children will be raised with a strong foundation, talent will be discovered here at a young age, and this community’s youth will be developed. “I firmly believe that investing in education is an important first step in addressing social ills, and the children will be in capable hands with such a facility equipped with all the necessary tools.”

Msibi continued by saying that in addition to its educational advantages, this facility will aid in the eradication of unemployment. “This facility is a remarkable idea, because it directly impacts the residents of this community in many ways. As more parents send their children to this centre, the number of qualified teachers to be hired will increase, resulting in a decrease in the unemployment rate among those in the teaching profession.

“Cleaners and cooks have all been hired, and security staff appointed in order to safeguard this facility against criminal attacks. This centre will enable individuals to put bread on the table, which is a wonderful benefit,” said Msibi.
