IN PHOTOS: Learners visit Barberton Correctional Services as part of safety programme

The Department of Community Safety, Security and Liaison, and the Department of Education host this initiative as a way to educate learners about the dangers of committing crime.

The Department of Community Safety, Security and Liaison in partnership with the Department of Education led a prison visit for learners to the Barberton Correctional Services on Thursday July 27.

The learners who visited the correctional services were from Lowveld High and Cyril Clarke Secondary School in Mbombela.

Moeti Mmusi, the spokesperson for the Mpumalanga Department of Community Safety, Security and Liaison said, “It is conducted annually. Learners from schools identified by the Department of Education are taken to the prison to have a first-hand experience of the prison. This is used as a tool to prevent the learners from being involved in criminal activities.”
