Mugiyo Ulrich Mabunda to appear for judgement

Mabunda has appeared in court multiple times since he was charged and was granted bail, set at R10 000 at the Mpumalanga High Court in 2020.

The murder accused ex-cop Mugiyo Ulrich Mabunda’s case is expected to come forth in the Mpumalanga High Court for judgement on Wednesday April 6.

Mabunda is facing charges of murder after allegedly shooting and killing his wife, Tebogo Mabunda, outside their house in Stonehenge in May 2020. The accused had appeared in court on Tuesday March 29.

The provincial NPA spokesperson, Monica Nyuswa, said, “The matter was postponed to Wednesday April 6 for judgement.” On March 28 after his appearance, Nyuswa said, “Mabunda appeared for his defence case statement.

The defence decided to close its case and the matter was rolled over until Tuesday April 5 for arguments.” Afterwards, Tebogo’s mother, Tsakane Linnet Sibuyi, said, “As her family we look forward to hear what the judgement will be. We have have been waiting for this day. On Wednesday we hope to find if the judgement will say if it is premeditated murder or not. The justice always takes long. We will be happy if he gets what he deserves, and I must say that we are expecting a harsh judgement.

“This is because the accused has not shown any remorse on what happened – not even his family has reached out to us. In life when people have issues, they sit and talk, however this is not the case with this matter. We would be happy if he had at least told us why he had shot and killed her.”

The victim’s sister, Kgopotso Matuwe, said on the day her sister was shot, they had received a phone call from her 14-year-old son informing them of what had transpired. “My sister’s eldest son called us and said, ‘Daddy is killing Mommy!’

As a family we still do not know why he shot her. We know that nothing can ever bring her back, although we are happy that finally we will get judgement on the matter. We hope he gets the appropriate sentence.”
