Murder trial back in Mpumalanga High Court

The suspect is being accused of shooting and killing his wife, Tebogo Mabunda, outside their house in Stonehenge in May last year.

MBOMBELA -The murder-accused ex-cop, Mugiyo Ulrich Mabunda’s trial resumed in the Mpumalanga High Court on Monday March 28.

Mabunda is facing charges of murder after allegedly shooting and killing his wife, Tebogo Mabunda, outside their house in Stonehenge in May 2021.

The matter is expected to be in court from March 28 to 30. On Monday, the provincial NPA spokesperson, Monica Nyuswa, said, “Mabunda appeared for his defence case statement.

The defence decided to close its case and the matter was rolled over until Tuesday for arguments.” After the case’s postponement on January 11, the victim’s family raised their concerns on the delay of the sentencing. Before the postponement, three people took the stand.

According to one of them, the accused would allegedly use his firearm to shoot in the air on some New Year’s Days.

Francois Viljoen, a cellphone expert, gave a statement about the phone records of the deceased.

Suzzan Sibongile Matsane, the deceased’s aunt, also took the stand.

She was the first family member to arrive at the house after the incident had occurred. A family representative of the deceased, Hendrick Matsane, said, “We do not understand why the case had to be delayed, since Ulrich has already pleaded guilty. The court just needs to sentence him for his crime. At the end of it all, he will pay for his crime.” By the time of going to press, the matter was still in court.
