An aspiring model from Emgwenya in KaNyamazane has been given an opportunity to compete in Guatemala, South America, but there is one stumbling block standing on her way.

Bajabulise Thela is set to represent South Africa in the Miss Teen Grand Universe beauty pageant, scheduled for December 6 to 11.

This 18-year-old has been modelling under the care and mentorship of the director and owner of Ruby Models, Yondela Sihlobo. She was crowned Miss Teen Grand South Africa in October. Miss Teen Grand South Africa Pageant is a platform for girls (14 to19 years) to influence positive change in their lives and their communities. Thela is a grade 12 learner at Lowveld High School.

“I am incredibly passionate about modelling and my education,” she said. For her to make it to South America she needs financial assistance. “I am in need of funds for travelling, outfits and accommodation. I will be so grateful for any assistance that could ease my journey. I promise to do my best to bring back the crown home.”

Sihlobo of Ruby Models in White River said she honoured Thela with the title because of the hard work she puts in everything she does. “I first saw her a few years ago and I started monitoring her modelling career. I saw something unique in her that I liked and every time she’s on stage she gives it her all. There is so much potential in her and she will do great on international stages too.”

“If she wins, she will win a title and she will prove to other young people that their dreams are relevant. She will win prizes from sponsors and a photoshoot package,” she explained. Sihlobo said some locals have made contributions to Thela’s journey, but they still need assistance to get her to Guatemala.
