Sabie Classic to boost tourism and economy

In a bid to promote domestic tourism, Safcol (South African Forestry Company Limited) hosted a fun-filled day which saw over 200 cycling families flex their muscles against one another, while at the same time exploring the hiking trails of the magnificent town.

SABIE – Safcol’s communication, brand and events officer, Nkgadimeng Ramela, said, “The Sabie Classic event is often preceded by a race called Sabie Experience, so both events attract over 1 000 participants from various provinces. This becomes a major boost to the economy and tourism of Mpumalanga. Our main aim as Safcol is the creation of job opportunities among the local community members, particularly the unemployed youth of the Simile and Harmony Hill townships.”

“The Sabie Classic cycling race has been around for over 10 years. Sabie is known for its scenery and beautiful waterfalls that are located literally a stone’s throw away from the cycling tracks.

The visitors can visit Bridal Veil and Lone Creek falls for a picnic. Both waterfalls are situated in the same Safcol forest plantation land,” Ramela said.
