EFF in Mpumalanga open to negotiations

Following an impressive showing during the 2021 local government elections, the EFF in Mpumalanga said it is open for coalition negotiations with any political party.

MBOMBELA – However, there are certain conditions that must be agreed upon and adhered to.

Speaking to Mpumalanga News, the EFF provincial leader, Collen Sedibe, confirmed that his organisation is willing and open to be persuaded to enter into a coalition government with any political organisation in the province.

There are three hung local municipalities in the province, namely Steve Tshwete in Middelburg, Govan Mbeki in Secunda and Lekwa in Standerton, in Gert Sibande District. In Steve Tshwete Local Municipality, the EFF managed to win nine council seats and in Lekwa Local Municipality, three. “We are open for talks with any political organisation that will be willing to put our citizens first.

Coalition partners would have to be prepared to commit to timelines on resolving service delivery issues, such as flushing toilets, water and electricity supply and creating employment opportunities. Racism would not be tolerated and no coalition partner would be allowed to interfere in the appointment of senior municipal managers,” said Sedibe.

Sedibe told Mpumalanga News that the EFF’s central command team had met on Friday and formed a committee that will spearhead coalition talks.

The team consists of deputy president Floyd Shivambu, chairperson Veronica Mente, secretary-general Marshall Dlamini, its former chairperson, Dali Mpofu, former deputy secretary-general Hlengiwe Mkhaliphi and former spokesperson Mbuyiseni Ndlozi.

“Our set conditions for parties wanting to work with us are guided by our policies and our seven non-negotiable cardinal pillars that include expropriation of land without compensation and nationalisation of mines and banks,” said Sedibe.
