SAPS launch manhaunt on suspects that opened fire at officers

 Mpumalanga police spokesperson Brig Selvy Mohlala said the police responded to a complaint where a suspicious-looking person was seen within the business premises at about 01:00 on Monday November 8.

The police in Mpumalanga launched a manhunt for more than three suspects after they attacked the police while on duty attending to a business burglary complaint at Mabuza Bar Lounge at Tonga on Monday November 8.

Mpumalanga police spokesperson Brig Selvy Mohlala said the police responded to a complaint where a suspicious-looking person was seen within the business premises at about 01:00 on Monday November 8.

“On their arrival three suspects, one armed with a rifle and the other two with handguns, fired several shots in the direction of the police. They retaliated and gunshots were exchanged. A few minutes later the suspects retreated and when the police gained entrance to the premises, they realised that the wall was broken. Some equipment that is suspected to have been used, including the grinder was found on the scene. There were bloodstains in the guardhouse where suspects took cover. The blood was also seen on their escape gate. No member sustained any gunshot and it is believed one or more suspects were injured during the shootout.”

Mohlala added that anyone who might have been admitted to any hospital with gunshot wounds to be reported to the police for further investigation. An attempted murder and business burglary cases were registered.
