Nkomazi Local Municipality mum on service delivery issues

The local community is furious about the lack of involvement of the Nkomazi Local Municipality (NLM) when it comes to the maintaining and upgrading of the town’s infrastructure.

Residents and business owners organised a meeting at Kambaku Golf Club on Friday October 22, to discuss further options.

The ward councillor was invited by the initiators of this meeting, but he did not respond to the invitation.

The main issues remain water, electricity, road maintenance and communication with the communities.

According to the Komatipoort Business Chamber, its experience with NLM has always been good concerning deploying workers in Nkomazi.

The business chamber added that these workers were, however, failed by their top management in providing the tools to work or means to perform their work.

All matters were addressed in letters the chamber had sent to the municipal manager and mayor in February, but no formal answers have been received. The business chamber took aerial photos to ease the process of auditing the damaged road surfaces and submitted them to the municipality.

In conjunction with NLM, it prepared a list of prioritised roads to repair. The town’s roads are riddled with potholes and there are numerous street lights not functioning in the main street.

“The truth is that without planning from the municipality, without budget allocation and timelines, the situation will not improve. Our letter that demands specific responses on all matters remains unanswered by the municipal manager,” said the interim management of the Komatipoort Business Chamber.
