Peter Nyoni makes call for support of ANC

The former Provincial Executive Council (PEC) member of the ANC in Mpumalanga, Peter Nyoni, has made a clarion call to all former leaders of the organisation to unite and rally behind the party ahead of the upcoming local government elections.

The country will go to the polls on November 1, a date that has already been declared a public holiday by President Cyril Ramaphosa. In preparing for these elections, Nyoni called on all former PEC, REC (Regional) and BEC (Branch) members to campaign for the ANC.

“I want to call on all our former leaders from all our party structures to come aboard and assist the ANC retain their position during these elections. Also of importance, we need to help the organisation retain its image, which has been dented.

“I am speaking and campaigning here today as an ordinary member of the ANC, a member without a title. I believe that I must serve the ANC and I don’t need anyone to invite me to campaign for the organisation,” said Nyoni.

He made this call during his campaign trail at the Maximum Harvest Church in KaBokweni on Sunday. Nyoni said the ANC has suffered because of its image being dented by leaders who refuse to respect the laws and policies of the organisation.

“But as you can see, President Ramaphosa is traversing the country trying to deposit it into the trust account so that our people and communities can learn to trust the ANC again. “The president is simply driving the message that laws and policies are key and we need to respect our resolutions. The ANC has an image to protect and we need to go back to the party’s character,” said Nyoni.

He acknowledged the fact that the ANC is currently not in the right space of discipline and called for unity and stability within. He also spoke strongly against the culture of “winner takes all” during their conferences, arguing that this will create further divisions within the organisation.

During his visit to the church, Nyoni introduced the ANC ward councillor candidates, Sibongile Makushe and Mhlephila Shabangu, to the congregation.
