Police launch manhunt for suspects following double murder in Barberton

One of the victims was Det Const Nkosinathi Lucky Ngwenya, who was attached to the Nelspruit Detective Services and had been off duty during the time of the incident, and the other person was identified as Jaftha Mnisi (35).

The SAPS has launched a manhunt for some suspects after an incident in which two people were fatally shot next to a liquor outlet on Saturday October 16 in Barberton.

One of the victims was Det Const Nkosinathi Lucky Ngwenya, who was attached to the Nelspruit Detective Services and had been off duty during the time of the incident, and the other person was identified as Jaftha Mnisi (35).

The incident was brought to the police’s attention by officials of the Hightech Security Company. “Upon arrival at the scene, SAPS members and the paramedics discovered the two bodies of these males with multiple gunshot wounds. They were certified dead. Some empty cartridges were retrieved at the scene. A case of two counts of murder was opened, and a manhunt for the suspects was launched,” said a provincial police spokesperson, Col Donald Mdhluli.

The motive for the killing is unknown at this stage. The circumstances surrounding the incident will form part of the probe.
