DA slams ANC candidate list

The DA's provincial deputy chairperson, Ciska Jordaan, told the residents of Govan Mbeki that they were facing a bleak future were they to keep voting for the ANC.

Jordaan has argued in a statement that the ANC candidate list for the upcoming local government elections consists of the very same people who had allegedly collapsed the local municipality.

“…A party whose candidate list for the upcoming local government election include the very same old people who have collapsed the municipality in the last 20 odd years. It is unsurprising to note that in the ANC’s candidate PR and ward lists, there are the same old ANC representatives that have run this municipality as long ago as the year 2000. They are the same people who have deteriorated and collapsed this municipality close to the point of no return,” read the statement.

“With the Eskom debt escalating in the past five years to approximately R2.5b, and Rand Water being owed hundreds of millions of rand while several communities are experiencing imposed load-shedding for hours on end every day, it is insulting to the communities of Govan Mbeki that the ANC thought it best to put the same suspects forward that are implicated in allegations of nepotism on the Section 106 Forensic Report and have unthinkably survived several motions of no confidence,” continued Jordaan.

Jordaan said this election is going to be a deciding one for the survival of the Govan Mbeki municipality.

“It is inevitable that the municipality will continue in its downwards spiral if it is simply going to be run by the same incapable people. A split in votes that could have been allocated towards a party that gets things done, would only hand more power to the current incapable incumbents. Only the DA is big enough to fight the ANC and bring that change to Govan Mbeki.”
