Slain pregnant woman identified

The heavily pregnant woman who was killed and dumped in the Crocodile River last week has been positively identified.

The 26-year-old woman was Patricia Juliet Ndlovu from Marite near Hazyview. Her lifeless body had been discovered by community members who alerted the SAPS on Sunday August 22.

According to the Mpumalanga police spokesperson, Donald Mdhluli, the body was found with gunshot wounds. Last week Mdhluli appealed to community members to assist them in their investigation and in tracing the woman’s family.

He said the suspect(s) are still at large and once again made a plea for the community’s help in tracking down the killers.

Anyone with information is asked to contact the investigating officer, Det Const Andrea Mthuzi Maphanga, on 082 469 1604 or the branch commander, Capt Ishmael Zenaphia Phiri, on 082 469 1542.

Alternatively members of the public may call the Crime Stop number on 08600 1011 or send information via the My SAPS app.

All information received will be treated as confidential and callers may opt to remain anonymous. This incident left the provincial police commissioner, Lt Gen Semakaleng Manamela, in shock.

“I am utterly disappointed that a precious life could be lost in such a manner, especially during a month where women should be celebrated and more so as there were indications that she was expecting,” Manamela said.

She said she has since ordered her members to work swiftly to bring the suspect(s) to book.
