Women to build one another up at seminar

Breaking the silence against all social ills faced by women, young Monera Vawda will be hosting an all-women seminar dubbed Sunday Lunch Hour with Monera.

According to Vawda, a recovering genderbased violence victim, this seminar is for all women who are currently going through tough times and are in need of therapy.

“The genesis of this seminar came as a result of a dinner date I recently had with my female neighbours and colleagues during which we discussed a number of burning issues affecting our womenfolk. I realised that many women were still trapped in the closets and were afraid to speak out against any form of abuse because of various reasons. Important was the fact that those who were prepared to speak out didn’t have the right platforms to do so and get help and a shoulder to cry on,” said Vawda.

“And so, I decided that something needed to be done to help these women as they navigate the challenges in this life. And I thought a seminar such as this would be the beginning of good things for women,” she continued. She said this platform would help many women to speak out against abuse and get helped in the process. This seminar will take place on September 5, at a secret location which will only be revealed to attendees and guest speakers.

“I would have loved to have hosted the seminar now during the month of August, which is by the way Women’s Month, but due to financial constraints I decided to do it in September,” she added.

Some of the topical issues that will be discussed include how to survive an abusive marriage, how to recover after losing a child, how to recover after losing your husband and how to start own businesses as women.

“I personally went through a lot these past few years. I lost everything I had, but I bounced back and became stronger than before. I want to use my own life experience to help empower other women.

“I want a situation where women will refrain from gossiping and pulling one another down and rather use their energies to build one another and become success stories with their communities. So I want to invite them to book a space and be part of this seminar where we will be tackling many topical issues,” said Vawda, inviting women to make use of this opportunity.
