Communities vow to stand against looting of their towns
The MEC for agriculture, rural development, land and environmental affairs, Mandla Msibi, and taxi drivers spent Monday night safeguarding Emoyeni Mall against any looting activities
Various taxi associations across Mpumalanga vowed to protect their local malls amid the country’s widespread riots #zumaunrest.
Yesterday, Muntu Gama, the chairperson of the City of Mbombela’s taxi associations’ steering committee, said all the City’s six taxi associations have vowed to defend and protect their livelihoods in the midst of the ongoing sporadic looting and vandalism of property countrywide.

In Bushbuckridge, the community of Mapulaneng and taxi associations in the area vowed to deal with anyone who attempts to loot and vandalise local malls and towns.
The associations also mobilised the community to defend their malls and towns in the Bushbuckridge Local Municipality.
Alpheus Nhlabathi, a member of the Human Dignity Restoration Organisation, said, “We, the communities of Mpumalanga, pledge our unity against looting and against any criminal acts.” He called on all citizens and community formations to unite and protect local economies and jobs.

No incidents of looting in Nkomazi were reported. Capt Magonseni Nkosi, the spokesperson for the Tonga SAPS, confirmed that the area was still quiet and the town was operating as normal on Tuesday. 
In White River, the local police said they were on high alert to ensure law and order in town.
Posters against the looting were shared on Facebook by community members from a number of towns in the province, including White River, Nkomazi, Delmas, Mashishing, Standerton and Middelburg. On Tuesday, incidents of looting were reported in Matsulu.
