Mpumalanga ANC to push conferences for new leadership

The appointments of mayoral candidates for the Mpumalanga ANC should and must be made by the incoming Provincial Executive Committee (PEC).

This is the view of the acting provincial ANC chairperson, Mandla Ndlovu; he stressed the need to push for the provincial conference to have a new leadership for the next five years.

“My view is that we must first have structures of the ANC in good standing, to go and campaign for the 2021 local government elections. There are certain decisions that, according to myself, must be taken by the next PEC and not this current one, such as the appointments of executive mayors,” said Ndlovu.

“I would have loved a situation of the next PEC being in good standing, and a PEC that would work with those mayors and all our councillors for the next five years,” he continued, “But we can’t just appoint people now while we still have to go to conference. And it is from that angle that I really believe we must push and have the conference.”

Ndlovu confirmed that branch general meetings (BGMs) are sitting as expected and prospects of the provincial conference are imminent. Even though it has come to Mpumalanga News’s attention that some of the branches within the Nkomazi subregion could not convene their meetings because of continuous disruptions, Ndlovu maintained that these BGMs would be complete just in time to hold their conferences.

“I can safely confirm that BGMs are sitting as expected and we are over 50% ready. We are continuing and I am certain that in the next two weeks’ time we would be able to reach over 70%,” he said. “We will be ready for the conference,” he affirmed.

When asked if he was standing for the driver’s seat, Ndlovu said, “Branches are still nominating their preferred candidates; we will wait for them to nominate and from there, there will be an engagement in the province.”
