Tributes are pouring in for a well-known biker, Thabo “Trompies” Matsane, the president of Sun Riders Motorcycle Club and the deputy chairperson of the Africa Bikers Council.

“We are saddened to announce the passing away of our president, our member, our brother, our mentor, our soldier, our leader, Thabo ‘Trompies’ Matsane. We are speechless, because it was too sudden. One minute you are talking to him, planning a charity event, the next minute you get a call that he is no more. “We have all lost a leader and a brother. As much as he was a Matsane, he was also for Sun Riders MCC, for Bikerville, for the community, for charity, for ubuntu. He belonged to all of us,” read the Sun Riders Facebook page.

Mabandla “Hlubi” Dhlamini, spokesperson for the club, said Matsane would be remembered as a unifier with a giving spirit.

“He promoted the spirit of brotherhood and sisterhood, which is what biking is all about, loving and supporting one another and the community. He promoted the spirit of ubuntu and respect for one another. He was also a perfectionist in everything he did,” said Dhlamini.

In honour of Matsane’s charity events, bikers from various clubs in the country, hosted a surprise birthday celebration on March 21 for one of their fans and supporters, Mathapelo Patricia Nkambule, a heart condition and kidney failure survivor in Elukwatini. They also rode to pay homage to Matsane’s family in Alexandria Trust, Bushbuckridge, on the same day.
