Suspects urgently sought by the law

The provincial police implored members of the public to assist in finding the suspects who had brutally murdered a 70-year-old man during an apparent farm attack.

Information at the police’s disposal indicates that Bertus Steenberg, who was residing alone on Leeupoort Farm, was attacked by his assailants who robbed him of his belongings.

Steenberg was then strangled to death before the suspects fled the scene in his white Toyota Hilux bakkie with registration number JWC 645 MP.

The victim’s family became concerned when they could not get hold of him over the phone after several attempts.

They got hold of his neighbours who went to check on him. Upon arrival at the farm, they found the house ransacked, with the victim lying motionless, tied to his other vehicle.

The police and medical personnel were notified about the incident and he was certified dead by the paramedics on the scene.

Police management strongly condemned the incident in which a pensioner’s life was heartlessly ended by greedy criminals, and made a clarion call to anyone with information who may assist in their investigation to contact Det Sgt Aubrey Nkosana Khoza on 082-604-1339 or call the Crime Stop number on 08600-10111.

Alternatively, the public can send information via the My SAPS app. All received information will be treated as confidential and callers may opt to remain anonymous.
