More Covid-19 cases reported at police stations

Police stations across Mpumalanga have seen an increase in the number of Covid-19 cases among the SAPS.

As of January 6, five stations including Witbank, Masoyi, KaBokweni, Phola and KaNyamazane were temporarily closed due to members who tested positive for the virus.

Masoyi and Witbank Police Stations were closed this afternoon. This follows the temporary closure of more than 13 stations across the province since the beginning of 2021.

They included Tonga, Graskop, Schoemansdal, KwaMhlanga, Dientjie, Marapyane, Komatipoort, Standerton, Calcutta, Hazyview, Pienaar, Volksrust and Kriel police stations.

Col Donald Mdhluli, spokesperson for the SAPS, said the temporary closure did not hamper with service delivery as alternative measures had been put in place to help communities.

“To access the Masoyi station, the community can call ‪082-303-9896‬ for all emergencies and complaints which will be attended accordingly,” he said.

“The building will be decontaminated and services will resume normally at the station on January 9.

“The SAPS management in Mpumalanga apologises for any inconvenience that may rise from this,” Mdhluli concluded.
