The first Exhibition @ Brown Street Social Market was held in style on Sunday. The popular street came to life with a colourful, wide range of stalls and activities for everyone to enjoy.

This event was organised by the Unemployed and Unashamed Youth Movement in partnership with the Lungile Mhango Foundation. Thandeka Shiba, from the Unemployed and Unashamed Youth Movement, said the purpose of the event was to provide an interactive business platform aimed at creating market access for young business people.

“The programme is designed to reach the young business people across the province and unearth them. As the youth in social development we realise that the responsibility of preserving and producing livelihoods is a collective duty. “We organised a youth catered business programme inspired by Covid 19. It is the understanding of the organisation that youthful energy must be guided. We have divided the programme into phases, which are activation, exhibition and conversation.

“The first phase seeks to create a learning platform that is creative and interactive. This will have both educational and entrepreneurial elements. The programme will be rolled out in all three respective regions, Ehlanzeni being the first, Nkangala the second and Gert Sibande the third.

“The conversation part has three sections, lifestyle, commercial and indoor services. The exhibition part will avail sales space wherein they can sell and make revenue as they accumulate business knowledge,” she explained. Shiba added that this can be achieved by working together with business agencies and identifying young entrepreneurs.
