According to founder Joseph Mashaba, the aim of the annual initiative was to create awareness about cancer, particularly breast and prostate cancer.

The Lowveld Walkers held a colourful cancer walk in Pienaar this past Saturday. According to founder Joseph Mashaba, the aim of the annual initiative was to create awareness about cancer, particularly breast and prostate cancer.

“Our target was the community members, especially in the townships, where many people are not aware of the risks posed by the disease, what foods to avoid and the importance for men to have their prostate checked by a medical professional,” said Mashaba.

He continued to highlight the importance of early detection, adding that this is what saves lives for those most at risk. “We want to remind the people that being diagnosed at an early stage can actually save a life.” The participants started at Moyeni Mall and the colourful procession continued to Kambebe.People were encouraged people to share their experiences with the disease.

“Let us raise awareness, join hands and help those who are fighting for their lives. Cancer may have started the fight, but it will not finish it,” Mashaba concluded. The group is planning a similar event in Nelsville on November 7.
