Women discuss solutions to gender-based violence

Women from all walks of life enjoyed an informative reality talk show that was hosted on Saturday at Chill Pepper Boutique Hotel. The event, titled Who Is She? was organised and hosted by Gladys Mndawe, also known as Mama Glad. She is the founder of Who is She Mothers Foundation. During the show, they discussed various topics, including gender-based violence (GBV), diseases that develop due to abuse, and cancer. The show was broadcast live on Facebook and MITV YouTube. ALSO READ: Department celebrates girls with new programme For this reality talk show, Mndawe said she chose speakers who are specialists in their various fields. “I invited people who will nourish and reach the expectations of our audience; Carol Nake, who has gone through the pain of abuse and speaks reality based on experience, Capt Jabu Ndubane of the SAPS who works with victims, and Dr Prudence Buthelezi, who diagnoses and helps women who suffer from stress, depression and mental illness because of domestic violence,” she explained.   “This campaign, #WhoisShe #celebratingmothersfromallwalksoflife, is a foundation aimed at celebrating mothers (women) while they are still alive. We honour mothers from all walks of life. We do not look at their status – whether they are literate or illiterate, privileged or less-privileged, married, single or widowed.” ALSO READ: Will politician accused of rape receive bail? Mndawe said her love of women who have taken everything upon themselves is what inspired her to start this project.   “This includes those who work hard to raise their children, especially the disadvantaged, widowed and single moms. My wish is for people to learn to appreciate, recognise and take care of women who play big roles in their lives, as biological mothers or otherwise.”   Mndawe said she appreciates the support from those who attended and those who watched.
