Child rapist sentenced to three life terms
The man who raped and killed two children in Sekhukhune was handed a hefty sentence last Thursday.
Charles Moswathupha (35) was handed three life terms. He was convicted by the Polokwane High Court last week. He was found guilty of two counts of murder and rape.
The first incident happened on December 6 at Koteng squatter camp.The body of three-year-old Samson Sithole was found in the bush near Koteng Village with head injuries.
The toddler had been reported missing. Moswathupha had been later identified as the suspect. He disappeared after realising that the police were looking for him. The second incident happened at Serageng Village.

“He raped and throttled Boitumelo Ramatsobane Matsekoleng (6), who later died in hospital. Moswathupha was arrested by the residents of Serageng Village. “He later pointed out the scene of the crime where Boitumelo had been found. She was then taken to the hospital. The police were called to the scene. A few days later Boitumelo succumbed to the injuries,” said Limpopo NPA spokesperson, Mashudu Malabi Dzhangi.
She said after Moswathupa’s plea bargain and sentencing agreement of 28 years was rejected, he tendered a plea of guilty, and was found guilty as charged. In mitigation, Moswathupha testified that he was intoxicated when committing the offences and he was remorseful.

Prosecutor Kgopotso Sekhukhune submitted, in aggravation of the sentence, that the accused had killed defenceless children who looked up to him as an elder who could protect them. He further argued that these offences were heinous.
