Suspects nabbed for possession of dagga in White River

44 packets of dagga worth approximately R66 000 were found stashed in the engine compartment.

Three men aged 29 to 40 appeared in the White River Magistrate’s Court on October 12 on charges of illegal possession of dagga.

The trio was arrested in town on Friday and remanded in custody. Police spotted a suspicious looking vehicle during a stop-and-search operation.

“Officials also noticed that their car had no license disc. They then conducted a probe to verify the authenticity of the engine number. Upon opening the bonnet, 44 packets of dagga worth approximately R66 000 were found stashed in the engine compartment,” said Capt Cynthia Mbokodo, spokesperson of White River police.

“Preliminary investigations also revealed that two of the men did not have valid identity documents.

They also face an additional charge of contravention of the Immigration Act,” Mbokodo added. The suspect’s vehicle and the dagga were seized. The matter was postponed to October 19. Police investigations still continue.
