From Nkomazi, to brawn in the USA

It never came across their minds that one day they would soar into the skies, travelling to the US to do what they love most.

Nomcebo Sindane and Fezile Mabuza, two young and dedicated women who have a passion for agriculture, are flying the South African flag high in the US, participating in a piggery project, North West Pork LLC.

The two are originally from Nkomazi and joined Ehlanzeni TVET College in 2015 to study primary agriculture. They started with their NC(V) Level 2 in 2015 and completed Level 4 in 2017.

Through hard work, dedication and their excellent results at the college, Nomcebo and Fezile applied for a Report 191 course in farming management at Majuba TVET College, IT and Business Campus, which they completed in 2019.

They then joined Ehlanzeni TVET College, Mthimba Campus, to acquire their practical experience in farming management and acquired the practical skills and experience to apply for a national diploma as stated in the FET and CET Act. Fortunately, an opportunity for a learnership in America presented itself, and they did not think twice but applied. Awesome Travels, the organisation offering the learnerships, responded with positive results.

It sponsored the two young women with travelling arrangements and placement. In June 2020, they were on a plane, flying to the State of Missouri where they are attached to the North West Pork LLC project. On their return from the US, they will have all the required practical experience needed for them to qualify for a National Diploma in Farming Management and finally graduate.

They told Mpumalanga News that they can’t wait to come back home with an experience they have gained in the US.
