Comedian brings laughter amid these challenging times

Lonely and in need of something to cheer you up? Vusi Mongwe, an acclaimed stand-up comedian, born and bred in Naas, is your man. Mongwe has used the lockdown period to fine-tune his art.

MBOMBELA – One of his recently produced videos about the lockdown regulations on social distancing being unfair to cheating learners in schools, left many in stitches.

It was also played on national radio stations. “I am so glad that my videos were used as intros to Robert Marawa’s show on Metro FM and Radio 2000 on weekdays at 18:00. This makes me realise that comedy plays a vital role in educating and entertaining the community,” he said.

“I am busy producing more videos not only to entertain, but to ‘edutain’ my followers,” said the former learner of Evimbilanga Primary and Khula Secondary schools. Mongwe started cracking jokes while he was still a young schoolboy. “Making people laugh makes me content and ecstatic,” he said.

In high school he was awarded a certificate for being the most entertaining learner. “I didn’t know anything about stand-up comedy until I attended a comedy show in Middelburg. I was motivated and convinced that I belonged in comedy. From there I have never looked back, attending shows and performing alongside big names in the industry,” he said.
