Mining company donates to the needy

The MEC for Social Development, Thandi Shongwe received a donation from Gauteng based mining company, Fraser Alexander on Thursday.

ROCKY’S DRIFT – Shongwe has implored the role that the private sector has played since the Covid-19 nationwide lockdown.
Speaking shortly after accepting the food donation worth R50 000 from Fraser Alexander in partnership with Rise FM against hunger at the Mpumalanga Food Bank.

“The Department appreciates the contribution made by the private sector and other sectors in the province since the beginning of Covid-19 nationwide lockdown.

“As the government, we have realized that we cannot win the battle against the COVID-19 pandemic. We need a partnership from the private sector, religious leaders, Non-Profit Organizations and other sectors in our society to be able to provide social relief distress program during this difficult time of COVID-19,” she stated.

Her sentiments were echoed by Fraser Alexander Communication in Marketing & Stakeholder Relations Manager, Elias Malune emphasized the importance of government and the private sector to work together during the nationwide lockdown.

Malune said to them as a mining company, they want to alleviate poverty in areas where they mine. She concluded by urging the people of Mpumalanga to adhere to the Covid-19 regulations which include always wearing face masks, sanitizing, keeping social distance and avoiding gatherings that will include more than 50 people.
