King Mswati III birthday celebration cancelled due to coronavirus outbreak

Money budgeted for the celebration will be used in the fight against the virus.

The Kingdom of eSwatini has cancelled the king’s birthday celebrations due to the outbreak of coronavirus.
In a statement issued by the prime minister, Ambrose Mandvulo Dlamini, on March 17, the money budgeted for the celebration will be used in the fight against the virus.

“Good Friday and Easter services are suspended, and the king’s birthday celebration is cancelled. The budget set aside for the king’s birthday celebration will be redirected to the fight against the coronavirus pandemic,” read a statement. It also states that schools and universities are closed with immediate effect until further notice.

Foreign nationals from Covid-19 high-risk countries are to be restricted from entering the country. Social gatherings with 50 or more people banned and the visitation to hospitals and correctional facilities restricted.
