Early Xmas relief for Lily Mine families

Last week they threatened to enter the mine forcefully in an attempt to retrieve the bodies of their colleagues and families.

Christmas came earlier for the families of the victims of Lily Mine in Barberton when the MEC for social development, Blessing Thandi Shongwe handed over food parcels to more than 37 families.

Shongwe also pleaded with the private sector to join the the fray with government in assisting those families while the mine is waiting for the private sector to invest in the mine to resume operations.

The families have been staging a hostage at the mine’s entrance, demanding, among other things, the retrieval of the bodies of the three miners who lost their lives and they are also demanding that the mine must be reopened in order to get their jobs back.

Last week they threatened to enter the mine forcefully in an attempt to retrieve the bodies of their colleagues and families.
