AfriForum to represent Senzo Meyiwa’s family

Head of the AfriForum private prosecution unit, Adv. Gerrie Nel has been appointed as the Meyiwa family advocate in the murder investigation.

AfriForum and the family of the late soccer player Senzo Meyiwa announced during a media conference today that the civil rights organization will represent the Meyiwa family.

This comes after the former Bafana Bafana captain was fatally shot in a house in Vosloorus five years ago and the National Prosecuting Authority (NPA) has not brought any prosecution to date.

Meyiwa’s brother, Sifiso said their family approached AfriForum for help in solving Senzo’s murder and that with the help of AfriForum, they want to honor Senzo’s memory by ensuring that justice is done and his killers are accountable.

“The Meyiwa family is proud to be associated with an organization that has the courage to take our stand with us in the fight for justice in this matter. So we call on all fair South Africans of all races to stand with us and fight this injustice.”

After the media briefing social media was abuzz with comments about the announcement.
