Recent break-in did not halt OR Tambo MSTA celebration

The institution’s celebration was held in conjunction with the 102nd birthday celebration of the late Oliver Reginald Tambo.

The recent break-in at the OR Tambo Mathematics, Science & Technology Academy was strongly condemned during the academy’s five-year celebration yesterday.

No arrests have been made so far following last week’s break-in.

The institution’s celebration was held in conjunction with the 102nd birthday celebration of the late Oliver Tambo.

Tambo was born on October 27, 1917.

The CEO of OR Tambo Foundation, Zengeziwe Msimang, the MEC of Education Bonakele Majuba, representatives from the Department of Basic Education, the Mining sector and Emalahleni Local Municipality toured around the institution.

They also observed a live broadcast of Mathematics to 89 schools and 6 000 learners.

The event was also attended by several learners from MST schools who also attended science and mathematics lessons as part of the institution’s celebration.

“This initiative is amazing, we have been given a tour of what exactly the facilities are and what the reach is. We are so humbled just to be part of this. When we were doing the tour, we learnt that one teacher can reach 6 000 students that is rich,” said Msimang.

“It is so moving and powerful to see that one teacher, 6 000 people, it’s amazing as a foundation. We are very happy that these students are getting opportunities that Tambo did not, because of his race and apartheid and the time in which he lived in.

I am very very proud of the education department in Mpumalanga, they have done a really amazing job. They have been dedicated and shown tenacity and here we are today. The facilities are real and tangible, this is a real legacy work and we are very proud to be associated with it,” she said.
