#SAShutdown has been trending since yesterday after the University of Cape Town student, Uyinene Mrwetyana’s body was found after she went missing last Thursday.
A 42-year-old post office employee allegedly confessed to the crime in court. He was charged with murder, rape and defeating the ends of justice. This was followed by social media unrest and sparked the #AmINext. Tributes have been pouring while the university offered to counsel students who are affected by this incident. Meanwhile, there has been looting of foreign-owned shops in Gauteng last night.
Social media users took to twitter to vent how women in this country are not safe and the attacks on foreign nationals:
#SAShutdown Dear foreigners we have nothing against you guys. But we as a country won't take any bullshit for crimes you guys commit. Then flee back to your countries knowing very well that you won't be traced.

Joburg and Pretoria burning with xenophobia. Shtum. Rapes and murder of women and girls. Shtum. Trucks blockading highways. Taxi drivers smoking out alleged drug dealers. Shtum. Where is the president? Why has he not addressed the nation? #702Breakfast
