By-elections to take place in some areas of Mpumalanga

Twenty-seven municipal ward by-elections will take place in eight provinces, excluding the Western Cape, on Wednesday, August 7.

Ward 02 in the City of Mbombela Municipality will be contested by two candidates, Jabulani Jackson Mhlanga from the ANC and Sifiso Masosota Gumede from the EFF.

The ward was previously represented by the ANC and became vacant as a result of the councillor’s resignation. The voter turnout for this ward in the 2016 Municipal Elections was 61.63% and the ANC candidate won with 84.53% of valid votes.

Ward 30 in the City of Mbombela Municipality will be contested by four candidates, Susarah Cornelia Mouton from the ACDP, Mashila Elliot Matsebula from the ANC, Rowan Torr from the DA and Mfundo Churchill Mathebula from the EFF.

The ward was previously represented by the DA and became vacant as a result of the councillor’s resignation. The voter turnout for this ward in the 2016 Municipal Elections was 63.04% and the DA candidate won with 70.32% of valid votes.

Ward 12 in Msukaligwa Municipality will be contested by two candidates, Mxolisi Sibeko from the ANC and Vincent Muzi Shongwe from the EFF.

The ward was previously represented by the ANC and became vacant as a result of the councillor’s death. The voter turnout for this ward in the 2016 Municipal Elections was 61.47% and the ANC candidate won with 71.66% of valid votes.

Ward 15 in Emalahleni Municipality will be contested by two candidates, Thulisile Doreen Malahle from the ANC and Dorcas Phaswane Mpfiri from the EFF. The ward was previously represented by the ANC and became vacant as a result of the councillor’s resignation.

The voter turnout for this ward in the 2016 Municipal Elections was 46.20% and the ANC candidate won with 67.40% of valid votes.

Ward 29 in Emalahleni Municipality will be contested by four candidates, Bafana Timothy Lukhele, an independent candidate, Magashe David Mmargetloa from the ANC, Petros Mahleza Mkhabela from the EFF and Willem Johannes Swanepoel from the FF+.

The ward was previously represented by the ANC and became vacant as a result of the councillor’s resignation. The voter turnout for this ward in the 2016 Municipal Elections was 51.72% and the ANC candidate won with 74.76% of valid votes.
