Sassa blocks over 2000 suspected fraudulent accounts

Banks were advised to put a stop payment on these accounts and affected beneficiaries could not withdraw any money from July 1, 2019.

The South Africa Social Security Agency (Sassa) has identified potential fraud cases to the tune of 2800 accounts 2 200 from different banks and 600 from the South African Post Office (SAPO) nationwide.

Sassa has assured beneficiaries that their monthly social grants will be paid out as officials are available to assist.

Beneficiaries who are unable access their grants are advised to do:

1) Start at the police stations to make an affidavit.
2) Take their bar coded or smart card ID together with the completed affidavit to their nearest Sassa office.
3) Be the lawful ID Holder.
4) Bring along proof of banking details.
