SANParks employee and three others arrested for rhino poaching

The suspects were about to exit the park when rangers and the police pounced on them.

Four men between the ages of 23 and  47 and 47 were arrested at the Kruger National Park yesterday.

According to the police, the four suspects  were about to exit the park travelling in two vehicles.

They (officials) pounced on them, with the assistance of a SANParks chopper that had to land on the road in order to blockade the fleeing men’s vehicles.

The men, among them a SANParks employee, were searched where items including a freshly cut set of rhino horns, a hunting rifle and ammunition were found in their possession.

They were immediately arrested with all the items and the two vehicles were confiscated.

The suspects will appear at the Bushbuckridge Magistrate’s Court on Monday, February 18 facing charges of illegal hunting, possession of a hunting rifle and ammunition without a licence as well as trespassing.
