Police looking for fugitives

Members of the South African Police Service at Acornhoek, near Hazyview, are looking for two men aged 42 and 35 who escaped from lawful custody.

NELSPRUIT – Members of the South African Police Service at Acornhoek, near Hazyview, are looking for two men aged 42 and 35 who escaped from lawful custody.The pair were part of five other suspects who were being transported from the local magistrate’s court back to the holding cells at the police station when they escaped.

Sydwell Joseph Malatjie was appearing in court for a string of rape charges that took place in and around the area, whilst Katekani Shai was appearing for an assault with intent to cause grievous bodily harm charge.

The two escapees, including Shai, whose escape came just after the court had granted him a R500 bail for the assault case, will now face additional charges of escaping from lawful custody. Police have since put in place the 72 Hour Activation Plan in ensuring that the pair are rearrested as a matter of extreme urgency.
