44 brand new laptops stolen from a local school

This happened yesterday night.

Zwelisha Primary School outside Pienaar suffered a huge blow when unknown intruders gained entry into the heavily secured computer lab and stole 44 brand new laptops.

Despite the fact that the computer lab is secured with alarm systems, the security company responsible never responded to the alarm.

Mpumalanga News learnt that women who work as cooks at the school saw that something was amiss when they arrived at the school around 06:00. They then called the principal who in turn, reported to security company, GNT Galant.

“Upon arriving at the school, we found that the intruders broke padlocks and in some instance broke the keys which we found lying around. 44 computers and their padlocks were stolen. Surprisingly, they left one laptop which was mounted on the wall,” said Ms Thandi Moropane, the principal of the school.

This journalist learnt that a tip-off led the school learners to the computers packed in crates at one homestead not far from the school. The school then reported about the tip-off to the police who, however, responded late.

“Going to the said homestead, we were told three young men came to demand the crates, threatening to burn the home owners if they did’t hand them the crates,” added another source.
Pienaar police confirmed the incident.

Anyone with information may contact the nearest police.
