Rape cases increasing in Masoyi

A suspect was assaulted and set alight on Monday.

There is a increase in rape cases happening in areas around Masoyi.
Capt Naniki Nonyane, spokesperson for the station, said five cases were reported between October 6 and 15. “In one of the cases unknown intruders entered a house where a couple were sleeping in the middle of the night, they took the woman and raped her behind the house before fleeing the scene.

In another instance a 48-year-old woman with her 20-year-old ill daughter were raped in their house after an intruder entered through a broken window.

“The family were attacked again on Monday night and were able to raise the alarm. Members of the community came in numbers and assaulted the suspect and set him alight,” she said.
In a separate incident unknown men fled with an undisclosed amount of cash after bombing an ATM at Swalala Trust.
The ATM was bombed in the early hours of Monday. No arrests had been made. “We call on anyone with information to help police apprehend the criminals to come forth,” added Nonyane.
