Accused sentenced for possession of illicit goods

In June, the accused purchased a vehicle with fraudulent documents. The investigation conducted by  members of the Hawks Serious Commercial Crime Investigation Unit led to the arrest of the accused.

MPUMALANGA –Berlira Galberto Guana  was sentenced to R6 000.00 or 12 months imprisonment by Nelspruit Regional Court on October 11 for possession of illicit and counterfeit goods.

The suspect was arrested by members of the Hawks Serious Commercial Crime Investigation Unit in March after she was found with the goods on the N4.

In a separate case, Onassis Ntandoyenkosi Mkhatshwa was found guilty by the same court on October 10. The accused was sentenced to five years imprisonment, wholly suspended for five years on condition the accused is not convicted of  fraud and theft. The accused was declared unfit to possess a fire arm.

Meanwhile, Lucas Zwane was also found guilty and sentenced to R3 000.00 or 6 months imprisonment by the Middelburg Regional Court on October 11 for contravention of Section 24A (1,4,5) of Film and Publications Act 65 of 1996.

In December 2017, the accused was arrested by members of the Hawks Serious Commercial Investigation Unit for peddling counterfeit CD’s and DVD’s without a permit.
