Lowveld walkers persist in cold weather

Tomorrow the team is expected to do some charity work in Witbank.

The cold front hitting most parts of the country did not stop the 60 Lowveld Walkers from continuing with their historical long walk to fitness in honour of Madiba.

This morning the walkers were reportedly 45km away from Witbank.

“We will walk the 17 kilometres this morning take some rest before embarking on the other 17 kilometres. However if the team feels fit enough we won’t take the break,” said Joseph Mashaba, founder of walkers’ club.

Mashaba also expressed his appreciation for the enormous support they continue to receive from citizens of the country along the way.

“Yesterday some people who had learned about us from the media followed us to give us water and other gifts showing support of our walk. This makes our journey easier,” he added.

Messages of support continue to pour in social networks. Robyn Baard shared this post on facebook “ The Lowveld Walkers left Jhb Sunday afternoon for Nelspruit. In Middelburg tonight. They start walking again for the third leg at 06:00 tomorrow morning – a cool 17km! Please help me in sharing the tenacity and guts of these people who will brave the cold as they walk an average 30km a day until they reach Nelspruit. Something good just for a change. Come on Nelspruit let’s get behind them and show the warmth of the Lowveld support”.

The walkers started with their 11-day adventure just outside Johannesburg on Monday.
They started with a 34 kilometre non-stop leg.
