Eskom promises no black-out during strike

Thousands of Eskom employees are expected to picket outside Eskom's office following a wage dispute.

NUMSA plans on picketing from tomorrow morning until 13.00. This comes after the union rejected the Zero Percent increase of Eskom’s wage offer.

Unions are angered at the power utility’s 0% pay hike offer. Workers are demanding, among other things, a 15% pay increase.

National Spokesperson for NUMSA, Phakamile Hlubi Ka-Majola says other members from all over the country will be arriving to participate. She says they will be heading to the Mega Watt Park, Eskom Head office.

Meanwhile, Eskom’s National Spokesperson, Khulu Phasiwe says they have contingency strategies to keep the lights on during the picketing period. “For now, the power stations are operating normally, we only encountered a challenge late yesterday and early today where a work group was trying to block the entrance, but our security officers called the police to rescue us.”
