Police foil cash-in-transit heist on KaMhlushwa Road

MBOMBELA – According to police spokesperson Col Mtsholi Bhembe, the vehicle was travelling on the KaMhlushwa/Langeloop Road, within the KaMhlushwa policing area near Malalane, when it was accosted by a gang of more than 10 armed men travelling in a silver BMW and a white Toyota single cab bakkie.

Bhembe said the suspects began shooting at the vehicle which led to it colliding with a silver Toyota Corolla. Two people in the Toyota Corolla sustained injuries, while the guards escaped unharmed.

Bhembe said it was at his point that the suspects caught up with the CIT van and disarmed the guards of their firearms.  When police appeared at the scene the suspects fled empty-handed.
