SGB members arrested for burning down school

Their arrest comes after angry parents burnt down the school admin block and the principal’s office, demanding a new school be built. The current structure was built in 1940’s.

Two school governing body (SBG) members of Mavimbela Primary were arrested in connection with the school facilities burning down.

Ms Grace Mabaso (35) and Ms Margareth Mashaba (59) appeared in the Mkhuhlu Magistrate’s Court on charges of public violence and malicious damage to property.

They were released on R1 000 bail each. The case was postponed to March 8.

The provincial commissioner Lt Gen Mondli Zuma strongly condemned the torching of the school. Zuma stated that it was disturbing to find SGB members and parents involved in such destructive behaviour, violating the Children’s Right to education while they are the ones expected to help in ensuring their future.
