Do you think you are fit to play the role of Brenda Fassie in her upcoming film? 

The film tells a story about her journey towards becoming one of the country's most iconic entertainers.

Production for the movie on the life of the late South African music legend, Brenda Fassie is expected to start next month and the biopic will hit cinemas later this year.

The film is titled – Brenda: The True Story.

The main role will be open for auditions across South Africa and anyone that feels that they can fit the shoes of the legendary star can enter.

This film will give the opportunity for any female to apply for this inspiring role.

Affectionately known as MaBrrr, the star was surrounded by controversy in her life and even after her death. She began a solo career in the 1980’s working with her producer, Sello Chicco Thwala.

Things seemed to all go downhill in the mid 1990’s when rumours of drug abuse began to surface. After she went to rehab a few times, she made a comeback in 1998, with the release of her very successful album Memeza.

The pop diva died in 2004 after spending two weeks in a coma. It is alleged that her death was caused by a cocaine overdose.

There are speculations on who can be the best person to play her role.

Some say Brenda Ngxoli, the best known for her role as Vuyo in the SABC1 drama series Home Affairs. She also played in Uzalo.

Khoisan Maxy, an award-winning songstress, record producer and songwriter could resemble the icon because their voices sound similar.

A London-based film and television production company called Showbizbee will be producing the movie in conjunction with the Brenda Fassie Estate and Legaci Nova.

Showbizbee will be announcing shortly how to apply. It will be filmed in Johannesburg and Cape Town.
